  Customers enjoy buying and receiving gift cards. In 2006 NRF projected that holiday sales topped $24.81 billion. Furthermore, 52.8% of adults surveyed planned to request a gift card. The new challenge is for retailers to provide gift cards that mesh with the way customers want to use the cards. Many early systems cannot efficiently support the changes in demand.
